Damon Dash may have told The Breakfast Club he
was done talking about Jay Z during their classic confrontational interview in
March, but that did not stop Dame from bringing up Jay while recently
speaking with Boyce Watkins.
Watkins asked Dame why he would always go on
stage at shows even though he was never interested in rapping. The founder of
Poppington Academy explained his reasoning and ended the exchange by mentioning
the quality of Jay’s early performances.
“You’ll do anything for your business. Even
things you don’t like doing. I didn’t like being on stage. I hated it,” said
Dash. “Jay had no presence on that stage. He was terrible on stage – no
personality.”
Dame went on to claim part of Jay’s
current success at concerts has to do with the fact the Brooklyn emcee has a
catalog of hit songs. He added his Roc-A-Fella Records business partner was
introverted, and early on in his career Jay needed him to bring energy to the
performance.
